  • Plankalkul

    Plankalkul was designed by, a German civil engineer, Konrad Zuse. It was the first high-level programming language to be made. It introduced the idea of writing a program. Plankalkul means "formal system of planning."

  • MATH-MATIC

    MATH-MATIC was developed by the company Remington Rand, with the team of developers led by Charles Katz. This programming language was made for the UNIVAC I and UNIVAC II. The name is the marketing name for the AT-3 (Algebraic Translator 3).

  • Fortran

    Fortran is the oldest programming language that we still use until now. It was created by John Backus. Fortran is an acronym for "Formula Translation." It was designed for high-level scientific, mathematical, and statistical calculation.

  • Lisp

    Lisp is the second oldest programming language still in use. It was invented by John McCarthy. Lisp was designed to be a general purpose language. Lisp is an acronym for "List Processor"

  • COBOL

    It was invented by a group of computer professionals called the Conference on Data Systems Languages (CODASLY). COBOL stands for Common Business Oriented Language. It was designed for business use such as transaction processing jobs.

  • RPG

    RPG was developed by IBM as a tool to replicate more punched card processing. RPG stands for "Report Program Generator."

  • BASIC

    John G. Kemeny and Thomas E. Kurtz developed this language in 1964. BASIC is an acronym for Beginner’s All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code. BASIC is beginner friendly because it designed for those who lack mathematical and technical background.

  • LOGO

    LOGO was created by Wally Feurzeig and Seymour Papert. The name was derived from the Greek's word, "logos." LOGO was created to introduce people to the concept of programming.

  • B

    It was developed by Ken Thompson and Dennis Ritchie. B was derived from BCPL or Basic Combined Programming Language. B was designed for non-numeric applications such as system programming.

  • PASCAL

    PASCAL was designed by Niklaus Wirth. The PASCAL language was named in honor of, a French Mathematician, Blaise Pascal. PASCAL's purpose is to teach structured programming.

  • C

    It was developed by Dennis Ritchie from 1969 to 1973. It was named ‘C’ because this language was the successor to “B.”
    C was designed for system development work such as programs for operating the system.

  • SQL

    SQL was developed by, 2 American computer scientists at IBM, Donald D. Chamberlin and Raymond F. Boyce. SQL stands for "Structured Query Language," and it was designed for editing information stored in data base.

  • ML

    ML was developed by Robin Milner and his friends in the University of Edinburgh. ML is an acronym for "MetaLanguage." ML is a functional programming language.

  • ADA

    A team led by Dr.Jean Ichibiah developed this language. The name was chosen in honor of Augusta Ada Lovelace. ADA was designed for large applications.

  • C++

    This language was developed by Bjarne Stroustrup. C++ is an object oriented version of C, therefore Bjarne added the ++. C++ is an extension of C, therefore it can be use like C.

  • Python

    Python was designed by, Guido van Rossum, a former employer of Google. Python is a general purpose language, and was said to be named after Monty Python.

  • Visual Basic

    Visual Basic was developed by Microsoft based off BASIC language. Visual Basic allows the user to create programs with little coding compare to other programming languages.

  • Delphi

    Delphi was developed by the Borland company. The name is a reference to the "Oracle of Delphi." Delphi was a Greek sanctuary with many oracles. Delphi is used for creating graphical user interface programs (GUI) 32-bit console applications.

  • Java

    Java was designed by James Gosling and developed by the Sun Microsystems company. Java is designed for creating applications. The developers wanted a name that is refreshing and new, therefore one of them came up with Java.

  • Javascript

    Javascript was developed by Brendan Eich in Netscape. Javascript allows you to to make your web page more diverse. The original name was not Javascript but due to the later added Java technology and the popularity of Java, they later changed the name to Javascript.

  • PHP

    PHP was originally designed by Rasmus Lerdof. The language was designed for web development but can also be use as a general purpose language. PHP is a recursive acronym for "Hypertext Preprocessor."
