    Birmingham march
    April 12th 1963 is the day that Martin Luther King Jr. led 53 African American men into Birmingham Alabama, to protest against the segregation in response all of the men were arrested. But because the march happened the southern clergymen shifted the law into the favor of the African American population. This was a act of civil disobedience.
  • The Birmingham Campaign

    The Birmingham Campaign
    The Birmingham Campaign was a strategic effort by many civil rights leaders, including MLK Jr. and the SCLC (Southern Christian Leadership Conference) to combat segregation in Birmingham, Alabama. This non-violent campaign led to violent police confrontations, that reaction prompted the Kennedy administration to take action on Civil Rights laws. This is an example of self defense.
  • Watts Riot

    Watts Riot
    The Watts Riot was a six day riot that started because there was a confrontation between a policeman and a black motorist, the resulted in 34 deaths, 1000 injured, and the destruction of thousands of local buildings, estimating 40 million dollars in property damage. This highlighted frustrations of poverty and over discrimination of African American. This is an example of civil disobedience because a six day riot was not necessary in the case of the police officer pulling over the man.
  • Memphis Sanitation Workers Strike

    Memphis Sanitation Workers Strike
    This workers strike was in a way similar to the Montgomery bus boycott, but in this case 1300 African American workers boycotted work because there were such bad working conditions two African Americans had died from poor working conditions. This 64 day long strike ended in significant improvements in working conditions, Union recognition, and higher wages for the sanitation. This is an act of peaceful protesting, but civil disobedience.
  • Miss America Protest

    Miss America Protest
    The "Bra Burning' protest of 1968 is a protest with the symbol of bra burning (or getting rid there wasn't any bra burned) a rejection of the objectification of women that was on the rise. The bra burning was an act of peaceful protesting that would've been civil disobedience is the clothes (and other feminine products) were burned.
