    it began with the street parties that were thrown in the Bronx area of New York. The mastermind behind it was Kool Herc, a Jamaican expatriate and his friends. They did it in the 70's. In this parties, there used to be a Master of Ceremonies (MC) ,who usually got on the stage with the DJ and shouted encouragements to the crown. This practice of shouting became known as toasting. This practice later became Rapping.
