In 1938, the Australian Government tried to bring 15,000 Jewish people from Nazism to Australia. The journey took three years, but half way through World War 2 started and only 7,500 made it across. -

In 1946, Australia lost 15, 148 immigrants. Australia also signed an agreement to provide free assisted passage to migrants and ex-servicemen from Britain. They also agreed to provide free assisted passage to ex-servicemen from Poland, USA, Netherlands, Norway, France, Belgium and Denmark. -
Peace Treaties
In 1947, it was decided that non-europeans were allowed to have a permenant residence in Australia for business reasons if they had lived there for at least 15 years. Peace treaties were created with Italy, Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary and because of that, a lot of migrants from those place traveled to Australia. -

Racial Discrimination Act
In 1975, the Racial Discrimination Act started up in Australia. The Act said that you were not allowed to criticise or give a disadvantage to people because of their religion, race, colour or descent. This encouraged more immigrants to come to Australia. Also, in 1975, Saigon fell which prompted a LOT of immigrants to come to Australia from Indo-China. -
Lebanese Civil War refugees
Another thing that happened in 1975, was the Lebanese Civil War which made 20,000 refugees come to Australia. More than half the refugees were Muslim (Islam) which changed the religions in Australia. -
Permanent residence to chinese students
In 1989, the Prime Minister Bob Hawke granted permission for a lot of Chinese students to stay in Australia permanently. -

From 1991 to 2000, the Yugoslav war made many Albanians, Bosnian Muslims, Croats and Serbs settle in the major cities of Australia. -
Jakarta riots refugees
In 1998, after the Jakarta riots, many Jarkata refugees came to Australia so get away from the murder and destruction.
