    This was a series of 4 debates that were held during the time of 1960. John F. Kennedy and Richard M. Nixon went on television debating during the presidential election. Observers during the time felt that Kennedy won the first debate, Nixon won the second and third, and the 4th debate was a draw. This is important to the '60s because it changed the way people thought about their political ways.
  • The Assassination of John F. Kennedy

    The Assassination of John F. Kennedy
    John F. Kennedy was shot while riding in a car in Dallas, Texas. He was next to his wife when he was shot. They accused the wrong person at first and then actually found out who shot and killed him. This is important to the '60s era because it traumatized all of the people who watched it happen and it changed things in the congress.

    The Beatles Appear for the first time on the Ed Sullivan Show
    The Beatles went on the Ed Sullivan Show because they were struggling when they first started, people weren't noticing them. This was important to the '60s because it made it easier for the next rock n roll groups.

    They authorized Lydon B. Johnson to take any actions against the threats to the U.S. This was important to the '60s because it marked the beginning of the U.S. military going to the Cold War battlefields.

    Operation Rolling Thunder was a bombing that happened in 1965 against North Vietnam. This happened because they thought it would end North Vietnamese aggression. This was important to the 60s because it became the most extreme air and ground battle.

    This was an anti-war movement that happened in 1967. 1,500 people were injured and 700 were arrested when they attempted to go past military police. This was important to the '60s because they didn't want war so they tried to take action and many got hurt but the U.S. ended the the draft early.

    Mai Lai was one of the worst events of violence that happened during the Vietnam War. More than 500 villagers were killed during the massacre. This was important to the 60s because it enhanced people's thoughts about the war.

    People started protesting at the Chicago Democratic Center because they were against the United States being involved in the Vietnam War. The riots were so important to the 60s because the people would go out there and stand because they were anti-war.

    This was an event to try and get jazz, rock, and soul music out there. This gave smaller bands a chance for people to hear them. This was so important to the '60s because it let people who usually never heard rock see the bands play in person.

    This was another festival where people could go to listen to rock and different types of music. People were at peace and very relaxed while at these festivals. This was a good time in the '60s, people from all around traveled to come to Woodstock.
  • Chicago 8 Trial

    This is one of the most infamous trails in the United States. The 7 people were protesting against the Vietnam War. Five out of the 7 were found guilty of disobeying the Anti-Riot Act.
  • Kent State Protest

    Kent State Protest
    They were protesting to expand the Vietnam War into Cambodia. They were also protesting the National Guard's presence. Four students were killed during the Kent State Protest, and nine others were injured. This impacted the 60s because it affected the people at Kent State who had to watch those 4 people die, and ended up making the public change their whole opinion.

    Roe vs. Wade
    Roe vs. Wade wanted to legalize abortion. Some people didn't like that so they went and started protesting it. This was important to the 60s because basically all of the states banned abortion at the time.

    The Beatles broke up because they were having money problems, another reason was because Brian Epstein died, and they had different types of ideas. This was important to the '60s because the Beatles were one of the first bands to introduce Rock and Roll to the '60s.
